Having Purpose = Living Longer [Study shows]
I heard the most fantastic report this week. A 14 year study showed that people who have a sense of purpose in their life live longer than people who don’t. And the really amazing thing was, it doesn’t matter what age you find your direction — it can be in your 20’s, 50’s or even your 70’s!
This is something that I have wholeheartedly believed for so long, but now to have scientists actually prove it is so important.
The study involved more than 6,000 people of different races and ethnic backgrounds and covered over 14 years. What they found was that “people with a greater sense of purpose and direction in life were more likely to outlive their peers”.
And here’s the other kicker — they don’t know how feeling like you have a purpose makes you healthier, but they just know that it does! In related findings, a developmental psychologist at Cornell University did a study that suggests that “having a sense of purpose may protect people against stress, with all its harmful effects”. Wow!
I know this is all true because of my own life. At the age of 47 (in 1999), I was unhappy, depressed, hated my work, 40 pounds overweight and in an unhappy marriage. The biggest thing for me was it really felt like my life had no purpose, no direction. I hated being an attorney, but felt stuck because what else could I do? I was so unhappy that there were a lot of days I could hardly drag myself out of bed.
The one good thing about getting so unhappy and depressed was that finally, one day, I just got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I came to Sedona for the first time and did a session with a practitioner and I knew I had to change my life. I went home and spent the next 6 months closing my law practice. I started coming out to Sedona regularly and did healing sessions with the amazing practitioners who are here. Two weeks before 9/11 happened, I was told that I was supposed to move to Sedona. I didn’t know why, but I had learned to follow my guidance. I moved here in October, 2001 and started Sedona Soul Adventures in 2002. I was 50 years old, but I had finally found my life purpose.
And what a difference having purpose and direction makes in a person’s life. Can you imagine what it feels like to know that we have helped so many thousands of people over the past 12 years? What’s so interesting to me is that now I weigh 40 pounds less than I did, my check-up numbers (cholesterol, blood pressure, etc.) are the best they’ve ever been, I look better but most importantly I feel better than I ever have in my life. My maternal grandmother died at the age of 51 (of a stroke) and my mother died at the age of 51 (of cervical cancer). The last 10 years of my mother’s life were marked with despair. I’m now 62, and I know that the biggest reason I’m healthy and happy (and not dead) is because I have such a sense of direction and life purpose.
Because one of the biggest things we do here is to help people find and implement their life purpose and soul mission. How do we do it? First, we discover and remove the blocks and the gunk that are holding you back. Then we bring you back into connection with all parts of yourself — physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Cancer has to do with emotions and our homes and our families. The Moon’s home base is Cancer, so the Moon feels the most at home here. When the Moon is in Cancer it is a time of deep emotions. It’s a time when we can connect with people on a deeper level, especially with our families. It is a time when we yearn for peace and serenity. It is not a good time for change, as we will resist any kind of change during this period and we will be more attune with things that are familiar (notice that the root of the word “family” is “familiar”).
Anything you would want to do around the home now would be favored, especially making your home a more comfortable place. Also anything having to do with helping your family or nurturing your family is very beneficial. Family get-togethers can be very harmonious during this time, especially if “neediness” is not involved. People can tend to be a little more secretive and moody during this time and also overly-protective. This can be a very healing time and a wonderful time to really connect with our deepest desires and what it is that drives us. Be very careful during this time about your stomach, gall bladder, and lymphatic system. Avoid over-eating, especially “comfort” foods. Give your family a big hug and tell them you love them.

I’m so excited to announce what I believe will be the best Egypt trip yet!
February 16 – March 1, 2015
This will be my 14th trip to Egypt! Can you believe it? And every year it’s new.
Why should you decide to go NOW?
•I believe this may be the last year where we will be able to see the places without the huge crowds of tourists that used to be there. Europeans are starting to come back and the United States has lifted its travel advisory to Egypt, so this means more people will start to go back. To be able to go to the Pyramids and Sphinx and not be shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of tourists is absolutely incredible. I’ve been to Egypt 3 times since the revolution (the last one was just this past February) and (in my opinion) they’ve been the best trips ever. •This is just such a fabulous trip. We go to all the must see places:
-The Great Pyramid (including 2 hours of private time just for our group for ceremony)
-The Sphinx
-Karnak
-Luxor

•And speaking of shopping, the exchange rate now is almost unbelievable ($7 US dollars to 1 Egyptian pound – the lowest has been 3:1). This will make the incredible shopping even more incredible.
•Everything is completely handled for you. All the transportation, hotels, food, all the entrance fees, all the planning. After 10 years of leading groups to Egypt (and over 30 years of going there myself), this trip is perfect!
•The political climate is steady right now, but within another year that could change again. You just never know.
•If there’s any possibility of you going now, your life may not allow you to go next year or the year after. Stuff happens, things change, if the opportunity is there, go for it.
•I’m pretty sure the price will go up next year. We haven’t increased the price of the trip for the past 3 years. Even though this year the price of the Nile cruise ship went up by 15% and the cost of a visa to Egypt was raised for the first time in over 20 years from $15 to $25. This signals that the country of Egypt knows that tourism is about to really increase again. So I’m pretty positive we will have to raise prices next year. And the price will still be amazing for all that you receive – but take advantage of these prices now.
•If not now, WHEN? So many people have said to me over the past 10 years, “Someday, I want to go to Egypt with you”. Guess what? None of those people have ever gone. It’s the ones who say “I’m GOING to Egypt with you” who go. And the ones who say, “I’m not sure how I’m going to do it, but I’m going to make the Egypt trip happen.”
So the question is, if you are really drawn to Egypt, if there is a part of you that knows that one of the things you must do in this lifetime is go to Egypt, then I will say to you again – IF NOT NOW – WHEN? What are you waiting for? If you told yourself last year (or for the past 5 years) that you really wanted to go to Egypt, has anything changed? Things don’t happen until we finally draw a line in the sand and say “I’m going”. Is Egypt on your bucket list? How much closer are you to kicking the bucket?
•Egypt is an incredible place where transformations happen. The energy of Egypt is absolutely astounding. The ceremonies and meditations we do (especially during our 2 hours of private time inside the Great Pyramid) are beyond belief. Some of the most amazing spiritual experiences I have had over the past 30 years have taken place in Egypt.

This will be my 14th trip to Egypt. I have been there 3 times since the revolution and those trips (in my opinion) have been the best. The Egyptian people are some of the warmest, friendliest people you will ever meet and they love Americans. In the words of one of our travelers from the trip this past February:

This will be my 14th trip to Egypt! Can you believe it? And every year it’s new.
Why should you decide to go NOW?
•I believe this may be the last year where we will be able to see the places without the huge crowds of tourists that used to be there. Europeans are starting to come back and the United States has lifted its travel advisory to Egypt, so this means more people will start to go back. To be able to go to the Pyramids and Sphinx and not be shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of tourists is absolutely incredible. I’ve been to Egypt 3 times since the revolution (the last one was just this past February) and (in my opinion) they’ve been the best trips ever. •This is just such a fabulous trip. We go to all the must see places:
-The Great Pyramid (including 2 hours of private time just for our group for ceremony)
-The Sphinx
-Karnak
-Luxor
-Abu Simbel
-Cairo Museum (to see the complete King Tut exhibit and all the other treasures)
And we go to places that the average tourist doesn’t go to:
-Isis Temple at Philae

•The price is ALL INCLUSIVE – it includes round trip air New York (JFK) to Cairo, 3 flights within Egypt, 5 star hotels, 5 star – 5 day cruise down the Nile, 3 meals each day (breakfast, lunch and dinner), all transportation, admission to all the sites, our Egyptian guide (who reads hieroglyphics!), even your tips and travel insurance. You will only be paying for your drinks and your shopping.
•And speaking of shopping, the exchange rate now is almost unbelievable ($7 US dollars to 1 Egyptian pound – the lowest has been 3:1). This will make the incredible shopping even more incredible.
•Everything is completely handled for you. All the transportation, hotels, food, all the entrance fees, all the planning. After 10 years of leading groups to Egypt (and over 30 years of going there myself), this trip is perfect!
•The political climate is steady right now, but within another year that could change again. You just never know.
•If there’s any possibility of you going now, your life may not allow you to go next year or the year after. Stuff happens, things change, if the opportunity is there, go for it.
•I’m pretty sure the price will go up next year. We haven’t increased the price of the trip for the past 3 years. Even though this year the price of the Nile cruise ship went up by 15% and the cost of a visa to Egypt was raised for the first time in over 20 years from $15 to $25. This signals that the country of Egypt knows that tourism is about to really increase again. So I’m pretty positive we will have to raise prices next year. And the price will still be amazing for all that you receive – but take advantage of these prices now.
•If not now, WHEN? So many people have said to me over the past 10 years, “Someday, I want to go to Egypt with you”. Guess what? None of those people have ever gone. It’s the ones who say “I’m GOING to Egypt with you” who go. And the ones who say, “I’m not sure how I’m going to do it, but I’m going to make the Egypt trip happen.”
So the question is, if you are really drawn to Egypt, if there is a part of you that knows that one of the things you must do in this lifetime is go to Egypt, then I will say to you again – IF NOT NOW – WHEN? What are you waiting for? If you told yourself last year (or for the past 5 years) that you really wanted to go to Egypt, has anything changed? Things don’t happen until we finally draw a line in the sand and say “I’m going”. Is Egypt on your bucket list? How much closer are you to kicking the bucket?
•Egypt is an incredible place where transformations happen. The energy of Egypt is absolutely astounding. The ceremonies and meditations we do (especially during our 2 hours of private time inside the Great Pyramid) are beyond belief. Some of the most amazing spiritual experiences I have had over the past 30 years have taken place in Egypt.
•Traveling with like-minded soul adventurers adds a whole new level to these journeys. And don’t worry if you don’t have someone to travel with — our groups typically fall in love with each other within 48 hours and make friendships for life.
So many people ask me if it’s safe to go to Egypt. This will be my 14th trip to Egypt. I have been there 3 times since the revolution and those trips (in my opinion) have been the best. When the Moon is in Pisces, it is an incredible time for deep spirituality, deep emotions and deep intuition. You will feel very sensitive during this time and it’s important to not allow those emotions and sensitivities to tip into despair, as you can utilize this time to your advantage by going within.
By doing so, you can receive incredible insights as the past and present seem to merge together. Your imagination and dreams will be very strong during this time. When the Moon is in Aquarius, you will feel an interest in new things, far out things. There is a sense of emotional detachment during this time. There is more of a focus on ideas and intellectual pursuits than on emotional connection. You may feel a bit more blunt during this period and other people may be more blunt with you. This could actually cause tenseness in your relationships, so be aware of that. For most people during this time, friends become more important than family. More focus might be placed on people in general as opposed to individuals (social consciousness).
