“This whole year has sucked!! I’m not thankful for anything!!”
I have heard so many people say that during this Thanksgiving and I certainly understand where it comes from.
This whole year has been really difficult for so many people.
I have had so many losses this year. Richard’s father passed and even though he was 96, just last June, he was doing great and then he suddenly went downhill. And then, out of the blue, his 75 year old wife passed within just a few weeks. We also just lost one of the most beloved members of our Sedona Soul Adventures family this week. It was a total shock, I’m still reeling.
All the violence that’s going on in the world makes it almost impossible for me to watch the news anymore.
The polarization of our country seems to just be getting worse.
There’s a lot of negativity we can focus on…
But I want you to stop and think for a moment and ask yourself this question:
What’s happened to YOU this year?

With everyone with whom I’ve had this conversation, when they’ve stopped and really thought about it, the answers have had a great deal of similarity. All of this stuff that’s been going on has made them stop and really think about the big questions:
How do I want my life to be?
How do I want my relationships to be?
One of the things that has been so interesting with the pandemic is that for a little while, the entire world stopped. It just stopped! And for the first time ever, we had something that affected the entire world! That’s never happened before in the history of the planet, not even during the world wars. One thing that affected everyone worldwide. It made a lot of people realize:
It’s so interesting how when you get clear on that, suddenly so much stuff falls away.
Things that you thought you “had to do” either can’t be done in the same way or you don’t do them and you discover the sky doesn’t fall.
You start telling people in your life the truth about what you want and you’re amazed to find out they love you and want to support you in being happy.
All of this is exactly what we’re seeing in our retreats right now. Individuals who are coming are clear they want to start living their best life. See this Trustpilot testimonial. Mathew (not his real name) says:
“I feel like I have completely reset my entire being to a place of peace, clarity and best of all, Love.”
And I love how Jill says:
“I know my whole family will benefit from the transformational work we did during our time at Sedona Soul Adventures.”
And she’s so right! It not only transforms your life and the life of you and your partner, the transformations affect everyone around you. The biggest referrals we get are when clients go home and their friends or spouses or co-workers say to them, “What happened to you?” And then the friend calls us and says, “I want me some of that!”
Don’t get me wrong, this has been a very challenging year. But isn’t it fabulous that for so many people, all of this has given them a huge knowing of what they DON’T WANT.
And knowing very clearly what you don’t want is the first step of knowing and manifesting what you DO want. And for those who are willing, this can be turned into a time where you can get what Mathew got:
“A re-set of your entire being into a place of peace, clarity and best of all, Love.”
Can you imagine going into 2024 with a sense of clarity and peace? About all aspects of your life? All of that and more is possible. I love it so much (and you’ll see it when you read it) that so many of our Trustpilot reviews say, “My Soul Adventure was so much more than we expected!”

In today’s fast-paced world, many people seek ways to reconnect with their inner selves and achieve balance in their lives.
One powerful way to accomplish this is by tapping into the Divine Feminine Energy, a universal force that embodies qualities such as intuition, creativity, compassion, and emotional intelligence. This energy is not exclusive to any gender, as both men and women can benefit from connecting with it.
When I came to Sedona for the first time over 20 years ago, I had just started my 20th year of law practice. I was completely burned out from having spent so many years in this male-dominated profession that was so cut-throat, aggressive and competitive. In the very first session I ever did in Sedona, I worked with an amazing energy healer, Ranjita, and she told me that my masculine energy had overtaken my feminine energy. That I was literally living my life from my masculine, rather than my feminine.
In a flash, I could see how true that was! It was affecting everything, not only my work but also my personal relationships with my husband, my family and my friends. This realization started me on a journey to “fix” it – to start to allow my Feminine Energy to really come forth, stop dominating the masculine and rather, find the beautiful balance of that dance.
Let’s explore the importance of Divine Feminine Energy in our lives, its historical and cultural context, and practical techniques to connect with this transformative power, ultimately helping you achieve harmony and personal growth on your spiritual journey.
Divine feminine energy and divine masculine energy are concepts rooted in various spiritual and metaphysical traditions. They represent the fundamental aspects of energy and consciousness, often associated with gender archetypes but not limited to them. These energies are not exclusive to any particular gender, as both exist within all individuals, regardless of their biological sex or gender identity.
Divine feminine energy is the spiritual essence associated with nurturing qualities traditionally linked to feminine energy traits, such as intuition, nurturing, compassion, creativity, empathy, gentleness, and the ability to receive. It is associated with the yin energy in Chinese philosophy and is often symbolized by the moon, water, and the Earth. Divine feminine energy represents the creative power within all living beings and plays a role in guiding individuals to cultivate their intuition and live their life purpose.
Divine masculine energy embodies attributes such as strength, action, logic, assertiveness, courage, protection, and the ability to provide. It is associated with the yang energy in Chinese philosophy and is often symbolized by the sun, fire, and the sky.
Divine feminine energy and divine masculine energy are complementary and interconnected forces that exist within the universe and within individuals. The balance and harmonious integration of both forms of divine energy are believed to be essential for personal growth, spiritual development, and the overall well-being of individuals, society, and Mother Earth.
Connecting with divine feminine energy helps individuals tap into their innate wisdom and use their intuition, fostering personal growth on physical, mental, and emotional levels while promoting spiritual development. Embracing these energies allows us to cultivate self-love, intuition, and empathy towards others, which ultimately leads to healthier relationships overall. As a result, spiritual retreats dedicated to helping individuals connect to divine feminine energy have become popular.
To understand the growing interest in divine feminine energy today, let’s consider the greater historical and cultural context of divine feminine energy. Understanding context is a proven way to improve learning. Complex and diverse, the historical and cultural context of divine feminine energy is shaped by various belief systems, societal structures, and the experiences of different cultures and individuals throughout time.
One easy conclusion to draw when considering the greater context is that an interest in divine feminine energy is not new. The understanding and expression of divine feminine energy have evolved and been interpreted in diverse ways throughout history.
When examining the historical context, we can look at ancient civilizations. Many ancient civilizations had deities and mythologies that incorporated divine feminine energy. For example, in ancient Mesopotamia, the goddess Inanna represented love, fertility, and war. In ancient Egypt, Isis was revered as a powerful goddess of magic, fertility, and motherhood. In Greece, the goddesses Athena, Aphrodite, Artemis, and Demeter represented different aspects of feminine energy.
When I started doing a deep dive into the Divine Feminine, I connected the most deeply with Isis, Mother Mary and Quan Yin. I was fascinated at how the representations of the three of them are so similar. Isis is very often pictured holding her son Horus and suckling him, reminiscent of the many pictures of the Madonna holding the Christ Child.
Similarly, Quan Yin is the goddess of mercy, compassion and protector of little children. This is a beautiful statue of Quan Yin which I have in my home which came from my years of taking spiritual groups to Bali. She is over five feet tall and carved from a single block of wood. She has her foot on the serpent (whose ornate tail twists around her in the back), just as Mother Mary overcame the serpent in the Garden of Eden. Also see the small child at her right.
An additional consideration when examining the historical context are historical periods when goddess worship or matriarchal societies were prominent and divine feminine energy was central. These societies valued qualities such as fertility, intuition, creativity, and interconnectedness. For example, some evidence exists that the ancient Minoan civilization on the island of Crete was matriarchal. Another example that provides extra historical context is the worship of the Great Goddess in Neolithic cultures.
We can also look at feminine divine energy from a cultural context. Many indigenous cultures worldwide often have reverence for the feminine as a force of creation, nurturing, and wisdom. For instance, Native American cultures honor Mother Earth and have female deities and spirits associated with nature, fertility, and harmony.
An important part of the cultural context of divine feminine energy is the rise of patriarchal societies and organized religions, which resulted in a shift away from the worship of goddesses and a suppression of feminine energies. This led to the marginalization or demonization of feminine power and the elevation of masculine deities and qualities. Understanding this critical phase of the historical and cultural context helps to explain why there is now increased focus on divine feminine energy, which for centuries has been suppressed and marginalized.
In recent centuries, there has been a resurgence of interest in divine feminine energy, particularly through women’s spirituality movements and women’s retreats. These movements seek to reclaim and honor feminine spirituality, often drawing from ancient traditions, and emphasize women’s empowerment, healing, and the connection between spirituality and social justice.
In modern times, divine feminine energy is often understood in more inclusive and expansive ways beyond gender binaries. It is seen as a universal force that encompasses qualities such as intuition, compassion, creativity, emotional intelligence, and the ability to nurture and foster growth. Many individuals, regardless of gender, explore and integrate these energies into their spiritual and personal development, as they explore who they are and what purpose they are meant to fulfill.
The qualities of the divine feminine are characteristics such as intuition, creativity, compassion, nurturing abilities, and emotional intelligence. These feminine qualities are different than the characteristics associated with the divine masculine. But rather than creating conflict and opposition with divine masculine energy, the sacred feminine creates balance – whether embraced by men or women.
Intuition, often considered the inner voice or gut feeling that guides us in decision-making processes, is closely linked with divine feminine energy – not divine masculine energy. By tapping into our intuitive powers and trusting them more frequently, we can access deeper insights about ourselves and others while making choices aligned with our true selves. Our intuition can guide us organically to greater balance and create lives of fulfillment, not regret.
Cultivating divine feminine qualities can increase creativity. Creative expression allows us to explore our emotions and thoughts through various mediums like art or writing – ultimately helping us connect with the essence of who we are on a spiritual level.
Compassion, another essential trait associated with divine femininity, involves understanding the suffering of others while actively working toward alleviating their pain. This trait is typically not associated with the divine masculine. Compassion extends not only toward other people, but also includes practicing self-compassion – a crucial aspect for personal growth on one’s spiritual journey.
Embracing the divine feminine also means cultivating a nurturing and caring attitude towards oneself, others, and the environment. Strengthening connections, advancing self-development and promoting a sense of wellbeing can all result from adopting a more nurturing attitude. Again, this stance is not typically associated with divine masculine energy.
Developing emotional intelligence is vital for those seeking to embody divine feminine energy. It involves understanding our emotions as well as empathizing with others – ultimately fostering healthier communication in all aspects of life.
By connecting to the divine feminine, whether on our own or through a spiritual retreat, we can tap into the power of feminine energy and the great goddess archetype. It is important to note that these gendered terms are not exclusive to women and can be embraced by anyone seeking to balance their masculine and feminine energies. Incorporating spiritual practices like those used by ancient Greeks and Mother Earth worshippers can help us connect with our divine feminine energy and women’s power.
By embodying the qualities of the divine feminine, we can find balance within ourselves and in our relationships with others. Uniting with your interior holiness can enable you to gain access to a more profound comprehension and admiration for yourself.
If you are wondering how to connect with divine feminine energy and cultivate divine feminine qualities, great news – it’s easy and there are many ways to do so.
Meditation and Visualization: Meditation and visualization practices can help individuals connect with divine feminine energy by quieting the mind, opening up intuitive channels, and creating a space for inner exploration and connecting with the higher self. Through meditation, one can focus on specific qualities associated with the divine feminine and cultivate a deeper connection with those aspects within oneself. Link to Blog on Why You Should Meditate as though your life depends on it
Chakra Healing and Balancing: The chakra system is believed to be an energetic framework within the body. Working with chakras can support the exploration and balancing of divine feminine energy. Specific chakras, such as the sacral chakra (associated with creativity and emotions) and the heart chakra (associated with love and compassion), are particularly relevant to connecting with the divine feminine. Chakra healing practices, such as meditation, energy work, or using gemstones, can facilitate the harmonization and activation of these energy centers, resulting in spiritual healing..
Moon Rituals: The moon has long been associated with the divine feminine energy due to its cycles and connection to intuition and emotions. Engaging in moon rituals, such as full moon or new moon ceremonies, can provide a framework for connecting with the rhythms of the lunar cycle and accessing the nurturing and intuitive qualities often attributed to the divine feminine by engaging with mother nature.
Creative Expression: Creative expression, such as through art, writing, dance, or music, can be a powerful means of connecting with and channeling divine feminine energy. Engaging in creative practices allows for self-expression, intuition, and tapping into the deeper realms of the unconscious, fostering a connection with the creative and nurturing forces associated with the divine feminine.
Building a Spiritual Support Network: Surrounding oneself with a spiritual support network, including like-minded individuals, mentors, or supportive communities, can provide a nurturing environment for exploring and connecting with divine feminine energy. Sharing experiences, insights, and practices with others who resonate with the divine feminine can offer guidance, encouragement, and a sense of belonging.
Women’s Retreat: Attending a women’s retreat specifically focused on divine feminine energy can provide a dedicated space and time for deepening one’s connection to the divine feminine. These retreats often offer, rituals, meditations, and opportunities for self-reflection and healing. Being in a supportive community of women who share similar intentions can amplify the experience and create a transformative environment.
These tools are not prescriptive but rather offer pathways for individuals to explore and connect with divine feminine energy based on their own unique journey and preferences. It’s important to approach these practices with an open mind and heart, allowing personal intuition and guidance to lead the way in cultivating a deeper connection with the divine feminine.
Integrating divine feminine energy into daily life involves cultivating specific qualities and making conscious choices aligned with the principles of the divine feminine. Here are some suggestions to begin balancing masculine energy with feminine energy:
Cultivating self-compassion: Practice self-care and self-love by setting aside time for nurturing activities, such as taking baths, meditation, engaging in hobbies, or practicing mindfulness. Replace self-criticism with self-compassion by speaking kindly to yourself and acknowledging your worthiness. Nurture your inner goddess by prioritizing self-care as an essential part of your daily routine.
Embracing vulnerability and emotional expression: Allow yourself to be vulnerable by acknowledging and accepting your emotions without judgment. Create safe spaces to tap into your wisdom and express your feelings, whether through journaling, talking with a trusted friend, or seeking therapy. Engage in practices like meditation or breathwork to cultivate emotional awareness and release.
Fostering healthy relationships: Prioritize open and authentic communication in your relationships. Practice active listening and empathy when interacting with others. Set boundaries that honor your needs and ensure mutual respect. Seek relationships that support your growth, well-being, and authentic self-expression, especially of your feminine side.
Balancing work and personal life: Set clear boundaries between work and personal life. Build your feminine energy by prioritizing self-care and making time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation outside of work. Practice time management and delegation to avoid burnout. Remember that rest and rejuvenation are essential for maintaining a healthy work-life balance – on a daily basis, as well as taking larger breaks, such as women’s retreats.
Connecting with nature and the environment: A natural way to connect with the divine mother is to spend time in Mother Nature regularly, whether it’s through walks in parks, gardening, or simply observing the natural world around you. Develop a sense of reverence and appreciation for the Earth’s beauty, wisdom and feminine energy. Engage in sustainable practices that respect and protect the environment, such as recycling, conserving energy, and supporting eco-friendly initiatives.
Integrating divine feminine energy is an ongoing process that requires conscious intention and practice. It’s important to be patient and gentle with yourself as you explore these areas and find what works best for you for connecting with divine feminine energy. Remember that the divine feminine is about embracing your authentic self, honoring your emotions, and nurturing your connections with yourself, others, and the world around you.
Understanding divine feminine energy is crucial for personal growth and spiritual development. Throughout history, ancient cultures have embraced the power of femininity through goddesses and archetypal symbols. Today, we can balance divine feminine energies with masculine energies to create harmony within ourselves and in the world around us.
We have many people who come to us at Sedona Soul Adventures who feel “out of whack” with the balance of their feminine energy and masculine energy. And oftentimes, they don’t even realize that is part of what is going on. Understanding the sources of this “out of whackness” can be very important:
This is why our retreats are so perfect for helping people to connect with their Divine Feminine Energy and nurture that connection. All of our retreats are custom designed for each person, so designing the retreat specifically for that is so beautiful. Sometimes there are blocks to connecting to one’s Divine Feminine Energy such as the ones listed above. Discovering those blocks, releasing them and healing them are critical and would be the first part of the retreat. Doing a Karmic Clearing session is perfect for that! The next step is bringing you into that incredible connection with the Divine Feminine Energy and doing sessions designed to make that happen. Finally, the Spiritual Transformation sessions designed to solidify the connection on all the levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. All along the way receiving tools and processes to continue to deepen the connection with your Divine Feminine Energy so that you’re living that all day, every day in an authenticate way.
It’s funny, when I first came to Sedona over 20 years ago and was told that my masculine energy had overtaken my feminine energy, I made the decision that I wanted to be a “spiritual person”, I wanted to embody the Divine Feminine Energy. Somehow I had bought into the idea that meant being sweet and compliant and never getting angry. That I should be trying to act like a Goddess all of the time and speaking in a breathy voice, saying things like, “That’s so beautiful.” Ironically, this was at the same time that I was becoming well-known as a divorce attorney and people would call me on the phone and say, “I hear you’re a real bitch. I want you to be my lawyer.” They actually meant it as a total compliment, but it didn’t go along with my ideas of embodying the Divine Feminine Energy!
Luckily, I never did any of that because I knew it would be completely phony – but there was a time when I aspired to it.
It took me years of coming to Sedona and working with the amazing Practitioners here to discover the truth – embodying the Divine Feminine Energy means being authentic and loving and compassionate with yourselves and others. It means discovering, releasing and healing the wounds that hold us back from being authentic and loving and compassionate. It means living in connection all the time. It means walking the walk and talking the talk and walking the talk. There is an incredible power that comes from connecting with and living in the Divine Feminine Energy that is almost indescribable.
If you’re ready to heal your wounds and forge your own connection to the divine feminine energy, come to Sedona for one of our women’s retreats! It is the greatest gift you could ever give yourself.
I hope this helped, and if you got value from this video, please like, share the video and subscribe to our channel.

I’m talking with you today about How To Flip the Switch to get Happy.
For the next few weeks, I’m going to be talking to you about concepts that are in my book, which is all about how to get happy and stay happy. The complete title of my book is The Journey to Happy– How Embracing the Concept that Nothing is wrong can transform your life. Did you hear that last part? How Embracing the Concept that Nothing is wrong can transform your life.
I want to talk to you about a radical way of looking at your life that can shift everything and I say this because it’s shifted everything in my life. It’s the concept of living your life from the standpoint and the knowing that Nothing is Wrong.
Now I’m sure many of you are saying, “How you can say that Debra, that Nothing is Wrong when the world is so messed up? When everything is crazy, I don’t have enough money, I’m overweight, I hate my job…what’s wrong with my life, my marriage is on the rocks, my kids are driving me nuts…?”
I get it, I completely understand because that’s where I was in January of 1999 – everything in my life was not the way I wanted it to be. I was doing work I hated, I was in an unhappy marriage, I was $50,000 in debt, and I was 40 pounds overweight. I was at a real low in my life.
But everything shifted for me when I really got this concept – it changed everything. I went from unhappy to happy, I dropped 40 pounds without diet or exercise, $50,000 dropped out of sky and I went from doing work I hated to doing work I love.
Here’s the key:
We think our unhappiness is caused by outside circumstances: I don’t have enough money, I don’t have enough love, I hate my job, I’m overweight, this person is not doing what I want, I don’t have what I want…
The truth is, our unhappiness doesn’t come from outside circumstances. Our unhappiness comes from our response and our reaction to outside circumstances.
We cause ourselves grief, upset, unrest, and dissatisfaction by agonizing over circumstances that we don’t prefer. Our complaining keeps us stuck in the energy of lack and of not having what we want.
If you think you’re fat, you’ll always be fat.
If you think you can’t be rich, you can’t.
If you think you don’t deserve love, it might come, but it won’t stay.
Henry Ford said over 100 years ago, “There are two types of people in the world, those who think they can and those who think they can’t, and they’re both right.”
People who think they can have a different energy about them than people who think they can’t. They’re not consumed by fear, they don’t second guess, they don’t explain, and they don’t complain.
When I was worried about money, it never came. When I hated my body, I could go on every diet in the world and lose weight, but the minute I would even think about eating “regular” food again, I would gain it all back and more, because I thought of myself as fat. When I started loving my body, I dropped 40 pounds in 5 weeks without diet and exercise.
When I felt stuck in my work as an attorney and kept telling myself that there wasn’t anything else I could do, and I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I stayed stuck in that energy for over 5 years.
What you resist persists. It persists because you keep feeding it that negative energy, the energy of “this is bad, this is not okay, this is wrong.”
So what’s the answer? Drop the resistance. If what you resist persists, then stop resisting.
Drop the resistance, Go with the flow.
And the easiest, simplest way that I’ve found to do that is to Decide that Nothing is Wrong.
That’s the thought to flip the switch.
When the energy shifts, everything can change and everything you want can flow to you, especially happiness and peace.
I understand that this is a lot to take in. It flies in the face of how most people live their lives, because most people are unhappy and complaining, and telling themselves they can’t have what they want. And as Henry Ford said, they’re right.
And I’m not saying that everything in your life is perfect or that you shouldn’t want more and better. What I AM saying is that the fastest way that I have found to change things is to drop my resistance, drop my judgment, and flip into the energy, and I’ll be talking about lots of different ways to do that over the course of the next few weeks.
I hope this helped even a little, and stay tuned because I’m going to be talking even more deeply about this in the coming weeks. And and if you got value from this video, please like, share the video and subscribe to our channel.

In the challenging odyssey of life, grief is an unexpected detour none of us wish to take, yet it often finds its way onto our path. Losing a loved one can be a staggering blow, plunging us into a labyrinth of emotions that are sometimes too complex to name. That loss can make the world seem less colorful, more chaotic, and filled with an aching emptiness. It’s in these moments, when the weight of grief feels unbearable, that seeking sanctuary becomes not only desirable but necessary.
Loss of a loved one introduces us to emotions and experiences that, while difficult, can help shape us into more robust and empathetic beings. Have you ever noticed how the most profound life lessons aren’t found in moments of ease, but in periods of challenge and upheaval? That’s your soul speaking to you, inviting you to dig deeper and rise higher.
The road to healing is often convoluted and lonely, leading many to search for something more than traditional counseling. This is where a grief healing retreat comes in—offering an immersive experience to help you process those deep, often overwhelming, feelings. And when it’s a private retreat, you have the opportunity to dive even deeper, exploring your own unique journey through loss in a way that larger, group settings simply can’t provide.
When first started Sedona Soul Adventures over 20 years ago, it was so interesting to me that we had so many people who came to us who had suffered the loss of a husband, wife or partner. And so many people who had lost a child and so many who had lost a beloved pet. The grief can be so overwhelming. We’ve been doing this work for over 20 years and the transformations which happen still continue to amaze me. To be able to bring people back from the depths of despair has been some of the most meaningful work we’ve done over all these years.
Let’s talk more deeply about the concept of grief retreats, a cocoon of compassion and healing, especially designed to help you navigate the labyrinth of loss: What are they, who benefits from them, and how can they offer you the gift of healing and clarity?
A grief retreat is more than just a break from daily life; it’s an intentional space to focus on your emotional and spiritual well-being, designed to help you navigate the stormy waters of loss and bereavement.
We know that each individual experiences grief differently. Every couple experiences grief differently, especially if they have lost a child. That’s why we’ll be talking here about private retreats, not group retreats. With us, every grief retreat is meticulously tailored to meet your unique needs. Unlike traditional therapy, which can sometimes feel sterile or one-size-fits-all, Sedona Soul Adventures crafts an empathetic environment for you, or you and your partner, if you wish to explore this journey together.
People usually contact us when they’ve run out of other options for dealing with their grief. Sometimes it’s been years after the loss, sometimes a brief time. Sometimes people having been lying in their beds for months at a time, sometimes they were doing “fine” and then suddenly hit a wall. Sometimes it’s after they’ve tried years of therapy, and it still hasn’t done anything for them. There comes a time when suddenly you know in your heart and soul “I’ve got to do something”.
Once you’ve hit that place of “I’ve got to do something”, the best candidate is a person who is open and willing to try a different approach to dealing with their grief. A grief retreat with us isn’t one-size-fits-all; it’s custom-designed for exactly what you need in your own journey. So, whether you’re facing complicated grief, anticipatory grief, or are simply looking to create meaningful rituals to commemorate your loved one, you’ll find that a grief retreat can be an empowering step forward. Compassionate people who will allow you to feel and heal your grief. Healers who know what they are doing and who have worked with this issue for years. Privacy in your healing so that you don’t feel embarrassed to feel and express all of your feelings – especially if they are feelings of anger and abandonment. Safety and security of knowing you are in capable hands and that we’ve got your back.
Over the past 20 years we’ve helped people through so many situations with their grief healing retreat:

And if you maybe have the thought that a grief retreat for a pet seems a little too much, as someone who has experienced that grief myself, I can tell you that this kind of grief is overwhelming and I have done sessions utilizing my incredible Practitioners to help me through the passing of my beloved Katie Kat and Daisy, within about one year of each other and that work was miraculous for me.
So many people who have come to us for a grief healing retreat for their pet have been able to move out of their despair and sadness.

But let’s get real, why should you invest your time, energy, and resources into something like this? What are the tangible benefits? First and foremost, attending a grief retreat allows you to pause, an essential step often overlooked in our fast-paced society. By consciously setting aside time to focus on your emotional well-being, you give yourself permission to grieve, and through that permission, you open doors to healing. You’ll also learn powerful coping mechanisms that equip you with the resilience to not just endure future emotional storms, but to navigate them with grace.
Now, I know what you might be thinking: “But will this actually change anything? Will I suddenly be over my grief?” The answer is both yes and no. No, a grief retreat won’t magically erase the pain of loss. However, it will equip you with lifelong skills to handle your grief more effectively. Picture this: instead of flailing in a turbulent ocean of emotions, you’re now sailing through it. You’ve been given the tools to navigate. This is the essence of resilience, and it’s a gift that continues to give long after the grief retreat is over.
You see, there’s a profound magic in being truly present with your emotions. This level of presence doesn’t come naturally for most of us; it’s something we need to cultivate. Our practitioners employ a rich blend of spiritual practices and intuitive healing modalities to help you connect deeply with your innermost feelings and thoughts.
And let’s not overlook the spiritual dimension of these retreats. Engaging with your loss through rituals or mindfulness allows you to connect with a higher power, or if you prefer, your inner self. This connection brings a newfound sense of purpose and understanding that can guide you through the murkiest moments of your grief journey. And in this spiritual dimension let’s explore the idea that this person or beloved pet isn’t “lost”. They have moved onto a higher dimension, a higher state of consciousness. When you start to deeply understand this and embrace that belief, it may even sometimes be possible to connect with them, especially using breathwork and intuitive readings and other modalities designed to bring you into those higher frequencies. I have had so many incredible conversations with Daisy and Katie Kat now that they are in the higher realms. Is that too far out? It’s been such an incredible source of comfort for me since they passed.
What to Expect
When you attend a grief retreat, especially a private one, the experience is distinctly yours. Forget about the traditional ‘circle of chairs’ grief therapy approach, where you’re not only encouraged, but expected, to pour out your heart and soul in front of a group of strangers. Instead, you will engage in a series of private, 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 sessions (for couples) with our Master Practitioners, many of whom have over 20 years of experience of helping people with their grief.
Holistic healing often borrows wisdom from a variety of sources. Grief counselors such as Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, Joanne Cacciatore, “We Don’t MOVE ON From Grief. We Move Forward With It”, as embodied in the philosophy behind the Miss Foundation are excellent.
In our grief healing retreats, you’ll be engaged in what can be thought of as a symphony of healing modalities. With us, each session is designed to meet you where you are, helping you come to terms with your grief and plan your next steps in a life that will undoubtedly look different—but can still be meaningful.
These are not random selections from a menu of spiritual activities but a carefully orchestrated series of one-on-one or two-on-one (for couples) sessions that respond to your unique emotional and spiritual needs. From energy balancing to deep spiritual counseling, our one-on-one private sessions can include a range of therapeutic activities and spiritual practices, such as emotional clearings, breathwork, forgiveness processes, Radiant Heart Healing, Core Wound transformation, spiritual transformation, meditation, mindfulness practices and possibly even a Karmic Clearing where you might learn about past lives you’ve had with your beloved and clearing any lingering karma, soul contracts, vows, etc. All sessions are conducted by Sedona’s Master Practitioners, many with over two decades of experience of working with grief.
Each modality serves as an instrument in the orchestra of your healing journey. Together, they create a harmonious experience that aims to bring you inner peace and understanding.
Think of Sedona Soul Adventures as your spiritual sanctuary, a refuge away from the noise and clutter of daily life, where your needs are not just acknowledged but deeply honored. Here in this incredibly beautiful and sacred place, our master practitioners create a cocoon of safety and wisdom where you can express your grief, and most importantly, be yourself without judgment or expectation.
Let’s be honest. Grief is complex. It’s like walking through a labyrinth; you might know you’re on a path, but it’s easy to feel lost. We help you learn the turns and twists of your personal labyrinth. Our compassionate practitioners serve as guides, holding the lantern of wisdom as you navigate the darker corners of your emotional maze.
Perhaps the most beautiful part of this entire journey is its tailor-made quality. Just as no two snowflakes are identical, no two grief retreats at Sedona Soul Adventures are the same. Our commitment to custom-designed experiences ensures that your grief retreat is as unique as your fingerprint. We listen, we intuit, and we curate experiences that speak to your soul.
As you come to the end of your retreat, you’ll find that it is really a beginning—the commencement of a renewed journey. You’ll return to your daily life not as a person who has mastered grief but as someone who has integrated it, recognizing its transformative power and its place in your larger life story.
Grief is a difficult, but illuminating, teacher. Choosing to face it head-on is an act of courage and self-love that promises transformative rewards. At Sedona Soul Adventures, we’re here to facilitate this incredible journey, to guide you through the complexities of your unique emotional landscape and help you emerge with newfound strength and clarity.

I hope that my words resonate with your soul’s calling for healing and growth.
I have Egypt on my mind this week and I came across a beautiful papyrus, which is a depiction of the Last Judgment. You see this scene all over Egypt in carvings, temples, and papyrus.

The ancient Egyptians believed that at the time of your death, your heart would be weighed against a feather. If your heart was lighter than the feather (meaning you had lived a good life and weren’t weighted down by evil), you would enter into Paradise and live out eternity with the Gods and Goddesses.
However, if your heart was heavier than the feather, that meant you had not lived a good and honorable life, and your soul would be devoured by the jackals. In the scene above, you can see that the person’s heart was lighter than the feather (whew!) and to the right, you can see Thoth, the god of writing and knowledge, noting this in what we would call the Akashic Records.
What I love most about this papyrus and all the other aspects of ancient Egypt, is that it conveys the essence of ancient Egyptian life, which is that everything revolved around their connection with their spirituality. Everything they did, every decision they made, was completely focused on the spiritual aspect of their lives.
So if you died tomorrow and the ancient Egyptians are right about the Last Judgment, what would happen with you? Would your heart be lighter than a feather? Would you be able to pass and party on with the Gods and Goddesses into eternity?
What if you lived your life with the idea that there is…
A higher purpose for your life?
A greater knowing?
A higher way of being?
We spend so much time focused on the day-to-day-ness of our lives. Doing our email, working, dealing with the kids, our partners, bosses, employees, cooking, cleaning, worrying about the future… It doesn’t leave much time for anything else. It certainly doesn’t leave much time for connecting in with the highest part of ourselves and accessing the Divine.
Would your life be different if you put just a little bit of focus on your life as a spiritual person? I think it would. It’s amazing what happens when you come from that perspective, even just a little bit.
You’re calmer. You’re more relaxed. You don’t worry as much. You start to have an innate knowing that everything will work out.
Can you imagine having your life be calmer, more relaxed, with less worry and this basic trust that everything will be okay? It’s almost mind blowing to even think of living a life like that, because almost no one does it.

We had a woman come here awhile ago to do a Sedona Soul Adventures retreat. She has a demanding job, two demanding teenagers and a demanding husband. Every year her life just kept on getting more and more hectic.
This retreat was the first time she had ever done anything for herself in her entire life.
Although she wanted to do a four day Soul Adventure, the most she was able to squeeze out from her busy life was three days and we told her that would be enough.
I went in to greet her during her Orientation, she got 3 phone calls in 15 minutes. One from her job, one from one of her children, and one from her husband. This was a Friday and she was going to be here Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and return home on Monday.
To each of them she said something close to, “I love you, but you’re going to have to figure this out, I can’t do anything about it from here.” She got off the third phone call and started crying, saying, “This is my life. This is why I don’t have any peace. I’m so afraid I’m going to go home and everything will be exactly the same and nothing will have changed. My nerves are shot, I can’t take this anymore, I’m just ready to run away.”
I invited her to take a deep breath and to stop focusing on what would happen when she got home. To just focus on how wonderful the next three days would be. Secretly, I shared her concern because I know what it’s like to have so many demands placed on you, to have people that you love and care about and a job that you care about, all pulling at you all the time.
Over the next 3 days, she had the most amazing experience. In her Enneagram session, she discovered that she is a Two, a people pleaser who had the distorted belief that she has to do everything for everyone else in order to be loved. She said when she discovered that, it explained everything about how she does her life. In her Emotional Clearing session, there was this old stuck energy left over from her childhood (where, as the oldest girl, she had to take care of everybody); the energy was cleared out and she said she felt “20 pounds lighter.”

But her breath session was the most amazing. She felt that she went completely into an altered state and suddenly, her mother (who passed away 2 years ago and for whom she was still grieving) came to her in a vision. She said there was this instant feeling of forgiveness from her mother for things she’d been feeling guilty about.
And then her mother conveyed to her (without words) that it was most important for her to take care of herself so that she could be there for her family in a balanced way. She “got it,” that she can take care of herself and still be a devoted wife and mother and effective at her job. She said she never felt so much love for herself in her entire life.
She had a delicious massage, did an amazing ceremony out on the Red Rocks and learned a meditation that she could take home and do in only 9 minutes each day. Her final Integration session put it all together and when I spoke with her as she was on the way to the airport she said, “I feel like a new woman. I’m so peaceful and calm and I know I can keep this going.”
After she’d been home a month, she called me to say that she is completely amazed at how her Soul Adventure has changed her life. She’s doing the 9-minute meditation every morning (“I just get up 10 minutes earlier”) and she’s done another breath session since she’s been home.
“Things still happen at work and with the kids and my husband, but it’s not driving me crazy anymore. I don’t feel like I have to do everything. It’s the most amazing thing. I just spend a little time each day focused on the spiritual side of my life and it makes all the difference because it affects all the areas of my life all day. My husband can’t believe it!”
She said she feels more love for her husband and for her kids (and for herself!) than she ever has.
So without knowing it, she’s “walking like an Egyptian” (remember that old song?). She’s focusing on the spiritual side of her life and it’s making all parts of her life richer and fuller. She’s happier, more peaceful, more content, and her relationship with her husband and her children (and herself) is so much better she almost can’t believe it.
She said she feels like she’s even getting more work done in a faster amount of time! And she probably is. When we’re operating in connection on all the levels — physical, mental, emotional, spiritual — all areas of our lives just function better.
How about you? Would you like to be happier, more peaceful, more content and improve your relationships?
It sounds like a tall order, but that’s exactly what happens when we live our lives in connection. Speak to one of our Soul Guides. They will connect with you and custom design a retreat that will bring you the peace and contentment you’re looking for in your life or your relationship.

Diane says she “never imagined she could be feeling so much lighter, clearer and overflowing with so much peace, joy, love and light”
“This was not only my very first retreat, but also the first time going away completely alone. From the beginning of my journey to its completion, I was filled with such support… joy… and love. All I can say is I never imagined after such a process, I would be feeling so much lighter… clearer… and overflowing with so much peace… joy… love and light! What an amazing experience!”

Nestled in the heart of Arizona, Sedona has become a popular destination for those seeking spiritual rejuvenation and adventure. One of the most intriguing aspects of Sedona is the vortexes, believed to be powerful energy centers that can facilitate healing, transformation, and spiritual growth.
These vortexes have a rich history and many legends associated with them. From the Native American tribes who first inhabited the area to the New Age enthusiasts who flock to Sedona today, the vortexes have captivated people for centuries.
Including myself! Coming to the vortex energy of Sedona over 20 years ago changed my life!
Let’s explore the history and legends of the Sedona vortexes, as well as their modern-day significance. Join us on a journey through the mystical world of Sedona and discover the allure of its powerful vortexes.
A vortex is a concentrated, swirling center of subtle energy where the Earth’s power lines (also known as ley lines) meet. In these places, energy is believed to enter the earth (downward inward energy) or project out of the earth (upward-flowing energy). Upward-flowing (positive) vortexes help release negative patterns, and downward-inward (negative) vortexes that promote introspection.
Each Sedona energy vortex has its own distinct feel, with some being more intense than others. Visitors may experience sensations such as warmth, coolness, or even emotional shifts at these locations like Cathedral Rock Vortex or Airport Mesa Vortex. In a vortex area like those found in Sedona, individuals might experience heightened intuition or psychic abilities; increased creativity; deepened meditative states; feelings of peace or rejuvenation; emotional release or physical sensations such as tingling. Experiences can vary greatly based on individual sensitivities and openness towards these energies.
If you’re planning to visit Sedona and wonder what are the Sedona vortexes to visit, consult a Interactive Sedona Vortex map! (get the print version here) Here are the most popular sites where you can experience vortex energy:
These unique energetic hotspots contribute to what I have affectionately dubbed “The Sedona Effect” and have become popular destinations for visitors seeking personal development and spiritual growth.
Some scientists and skeptics dismiss the idea that Sedona vortexes are energetic phenomena. They claim that the clarity, happiness, and calm that result from “vortex energy” are natural results of being outdoors, in a stunningly beautiful setting, often while meditating. Others claim that “vortex” is a well-coined marketing label for what is simply a meditation site.
Whether you’re a spiritual seeker or just looking for a unique Sedona experience, visiting Sedona’s vortex sites can be a transformative and unforgettable experience.
If you want to experience the wonders of Sedona and have a vortex experience, you might be interested in the history of the Sedona energy vortexes, such as Bell Rock, or of the Red Rock country in general.
According to archaeologists, the history of Red Rock country dates back approximately 10,000 years, when Native American cave dwellers first inhabited the caves in and around Sedona. Originally inhabited by the Sinagua tribe, who left behind their own unique cultural footprint, Sedona today is populated by the Hopi, Navajo, Tonto Apaches and Yavapai.
Indigenous peoples have long revered the land surrounding today’s modern Sedona, AZ, vortexes and Red Rock country including Oak Creek. They believed in its spiritual significance and respected its natural beauty. Sedona is home to numerous Native American sacred sites throughout the area. Sedona vortexes such as Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock and Boynton Canyon vortex are believed to be inhabited by powerful spirits.
In 1583, the first Europeans, a Spanish expedition in search of mines – not a Sedona vortex – arrived in Red Rock Country. The first permanent settler, John James Thompson, squatted in Oak Creek Canyon in 1876, marking the beginning of Sedona’s new identity as a small, remote ranching and farming settlement. By the early 1900s, the settlement near Oak Creek was home to two dozen families who created irrigation ditches to plant crops and orchards. During the ensuing decades, trails and cowpaths in the canyon became dirt roads, and this attracted more people. Sedona earned its moniker in 1902, when Theodore Schnebly petitioned for a new postal station, naming the new post office after his wife. What I love is that the original name he submitted was “Schnebly Station”, they denied the application saying it was too many letters, so he re-submitted “Sedona”. Thank God! It just wouldn’t work to have Schnebly Station Soul Adventures!”
In the late 19th century, new arrivals saw Sedona’s potential for growth and progress.
Early settler Abraham James is credited with naming many of the notable rock formations that give Sedona vortexes their names, including Bell Rock, Steamboat Rock, Court Rock (now Courthouse Rock) and Church Rock (now Cathedral Rock). Dr. Jesse Walter Fewkes of the Smithsonian Institute named the two largest cliff dwellings in the Sedona area, Palatki and Honanki. In 1895, this forward-thinking archaeologist predicted that the Sedona area would become a tourist mecca.
The emergence of the New Age movement has brought about a significant shift in spiritual and metaphysical beliefs. Nestled amidst the awe-inspiring red rock formations of Arizona, Sedona is one place that has become synonymous with this movement’s popularity. As a result, many people now visit this magical place, seeking the Sedona Effect and personal transformation through powerful vortex energy experiences at sites like Cathedral Rock Vortex, Bell Rock Vortex, and Boynton Canyon Vortex. These Sedona vortexes are swirling centers of energy that can create a palpable sensation, often described as a tingling sensation, in those who visit them.
Its breathtaking natural beauty, said to possess powerful Sedona vortex energy, combined with a rich tapestry of New Age practices such as crystal healing, meditation, and energy work, has turned this beautiful town into a vibrant hub of spiritual exploration and self-discovery. As word of Sedona’s transformative energy and the allure of its New Age offerings spread, it has attracted countless visitors from around the world, cementing its reputation as a sanctuary for those seeking enlightenment and a deeper connection to the universe.
No single individual can be credited with starting Sedona as a popular New Age destination. But there were several key figures and events that contributed to its rise in prominence within the New Age movement. Author and psychic Page Bryant’s book, “The Sedona Vortex Experience,” brought awareness to the concept of Sedona energy vortexes in the 1980s. The Harmonic Convergence, a globally synchronized meditation event, took place in 1987, drawing spiritual seekers to Sedona to partake in the event’s transformative energy. These events, along with the efforts of various spiritual teachers, healers, and artists who settled in Sedona, contributed to its reputation as a popular New Age destination, which of course required the creation of a Sedona vortex map. Over time, Sedona’s natural beauty and the presence of alternative healing and metaphysical practices further solidified its status as a sought-after destination for those on a spiritual journey.
The mystique of Red Rock country and Verde Valley is further heightened by the legends of Sedona energy vortexes like Cathedral Rock, Boynton Canyon, and Bell Rock. Each Sedona location offers unique energies that affect individuals differently, making them ideal spots for personal development and spiritual growth.
Red Rock Crossing, where Oak Creek runs next to Cathedral Rock, is a strong Sedona vortex. Cathedral Rock is a holy place to the local Native Americans that once lived in this high desert paradise. This Sedona energy vortex is purported to be the home of their gods and the birthplace of the first man and first woman. If you look in the middle of Cathedral Rock, you can see the First Man and First Woman standing back to back.
The legend of Red Rock Crossing says that the First Man and First Woman argued constantly and could never agree. She said he never helped out around the cave. He claimed she nagged persistently. They finally appealed to the Gods for assistance. The Gods placed them in their positions – back to back but together – so they would be able to have their own views, voice and direction, yet remain together.
The legend of the Boynton Canyon vortex is another captivating tale in Sedona’s rich folklore. Boynton Canyon is a place of spiritual significance and healing for the Yavapai-Apache people. According to legend, it was in Boynton Canyon that First Woman gave birth to their tribe.
The Bell Rock vortex itself is not recognized as a specific Native American site with historical or cultural significance. Instead, the myths and legends of this popular Sedona spot are other-worldly. Some believe that aliens planted a giant crystal under Bell Rock. Others claim that Bell Rock itself is an alien spaceship or transdimensional portal, hence the reason humans feel an “energy” when visiting.
Modern-day Sedona vortexes, such as Cathedral Rock Vortex and Boynton Canyon Vortex, are widely recognized as powerful energy sites for personal development and spiritual growth. Many visitors who experience the energy of a vortex report experiencing a palpable sensation, increased energy levels, or even the release of negative patterns while visiting these swirling energy centers.
The popularity of Sedona vortex tours, Sedona sacred journeys, and other vortex site activities has grown significantly in recent years, particularly among people who are considered to be New Age spiritual seekers. Options range from guided hikes to yoga sessions at key locations like Airport Mesa Vortex, Cathedral Rock, and Bell Rock,
Despite the undeniable allure of Sedona‘s landscapes, there has been criticism regarding cultural appropriation and capitalism surrounding vortex tourism. White business owners profit from spiritual practices of indigenous peoples, raising ethical concerns. The exploitation of Native American beliefs by non-indigenous individuals can lead to misrepresentation and commodification of sacred traditions. This is one of the reasons why we have never done Native American rituals such as a sweat lodge at Sedona Soul Adventures, instead we do sessions to connect with and utilize the transformational energy.
Skeptics, too, contend that no scientific evidence supports the Sedona energy vortex phenomenon.
Critics claim that the sensations experienced at vortex sites are purely psychological or due to natural geological formations like magnetic anomalies.
But even some scientists and skeptics will tell you there is “something” about Sedona, even if they can’t explain it. Even Penn and Teller, the myth-busting comedy team, came to Sedona with their hit show “Bullshit”, with the obvious intention of proving that the Sedona vortex energy is BS. Watch the show all the way to the end and you’ll see that even after all the ridicule they heap on the New Age stuff, they come away with the idea that “something” was here.
My youngest brother is a medical doctor, Western trained and highly skeptical. While it took me over two years to actually “feel” the vortex energy here in Sedona (I think I was trying too hard to “make it happen”), the very first time he came to visit me in Sedona I took him to Airport Mesa Vortex and we sat down to do a meditation. He immediately said “this is strange, my hands and feet are tingling”. It took me two years to feel it and he felt it the first time he plopped his butt down on the Sedona earth – the little brat!
Sedona vortexes are unique and powerful energy centers that have been revered by indigenous tribes for centuries. Now, thanks to the movement sparked by Page Bryant, it’s a sacred place for New Age spiritual seekers, too. Each vortex has its own distinct characteristics and legends surrounding it, making them a fascinating destination for those interested in personal development and spiritual growth. While the popularity of organized tours and activities has brought some controversy surrounding capitalism and cultural appropriation, there is still much to be learned from these sacred sites.
For me, coming to Sedona over 20 years ago and doing healing work in this energy changed my life! I came here for the first time in 1999 for what I thought was going to be three days of quiet. Instead, I received the unmistakable message that I had to change my life and I did. Three years later I moved to Sedona and founded Sedona Soul Adventures.

Effective communication is one of the most crucial components of any relationship. And when it comes to marriage, its importance is even greater. If you’re having issues communicating with your partner and want to be proactive about the future of your marriage, a marriage retreat may be your next best step.
Marriage retreats are ideal for communication work, enabling you to explore essential skills through exercises and strategies that you can take home and work through on a daily basis. Let’s take a look at exploring communication skills on a marriage retreat.
Many of you know that I was a divorce attorney for 20 years and then I started Sedona Soul Adventures in 2002, so I have a total of over 40 years experience of working with couples. One of the things I know for sure is that communication is one of the predictors for the happiness (or defeat) of your relationship. That’s why it’s such an important part of the marriage retreats we do.
How does verbal and non-verbal communication come into play during a couple’s marriage retreat?
In a marriage retreat, you’ll become aware of both your verbal language and younon-verbal communication, including body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, and other signals. Oftentimes, mixed or unclear non-verbal signals lead to confusion, tension, and conflict in a marriage. And very often, one or both parties don’t even realize they’re doing it!
Some of the challenges of effective communication in marriage include not fully listening, making assumptions, blaming, defensiveness, stonewalling, and verbalizing contempt for the other person. A retreat provides a safe space to identify those negative communication patterns and transform them into healthy, constructive ways of relating.
By understanding your own communication style as well as your partner’s style, you can learn to express yourself clearly and compassionately. This leads to deeper intimacy and connection. On a retreat, you’ll gain tools to communicate your needs and emotions skillfully to your spouse.
What are the communication skills needed for a successful marriage?
Active listening is one of the most vital skills for improving communication in a marriage. On a retreat, you’ll learn the fundamentals of active listening, which involves being fully present and engaged with your partner, making eye contact, avoiding distractions, reflecting back what you heard, asking clarifying questions, and withholding judgment. Practicing active listening leads to greater mutual understanding.
Other key skills include owning your feelings using “I” statements, validating your partner’s perspective even when disagreeing, compromising, and being assertive but not aggressive. A retreat gives you and your partner tools to communicate with empathy, vulnerability, and care. Speaking in terms of “when this happens, I feel this….” as opposed to “you make me so angry”, can make a huge difference.
Some tips for gaining communication skills for a successful marriage include:
Therapy techniques such as motivational interviewing and Gottman’s repair attempts can also be incorporated into exercises at a marriage retreat to enhance communication between spouses. The goal is to exit the retreat with practical methods to deepen connection through improved verbal and non-verbal communication.
What are some communication exercises and activities that can be incorporated into a couple’s marriage retreat?
There are many interactive exercises that can be used during a retreat to promote mindful communication between partners:
For example, eye gazing builds awareness of non-verbal signals, while roleplaying helps couples apply new techniques in a safe space. Written letters and art activities tap into creativity and emotional expression.
The right combination of exercises, tailored to each couple’s needs, can lead to breakthroughs in how spouses relate and communicate. A skilled Practitioner designs an experience with activities to foster vulnerability, empathy, self-discovery, and conflict resolution in service of better communication.
On a marriage retreat, you’ll have focused time and space to practice communicating with presence. The beautiful, tranquil setting relaxes the mind and body, while the removal of everyday distractions allows you to be fully available to your partner.
